Rosseau Treetops Cottage
Location: Lake Rosseau, near Minett and Port
Carling.
Peacefully settled among the tree tops on Lake Rosseau, this lovingly cared for cottage oozes atmosphere and charm. With its wonderful views of Friendly Bay, open concept living, extra sleeping space in the bunkie over the boathouse, and wildflowers along the walkways, a vacation will be remembered for years to come.
To reach this cottage, follow the winding road past pretty bays on Lake Rosseau. The property is located only five minutes from fine dining at Red Leaves Resort or at Cleveland House, and five minutes from world-renowned public golfing at The Rock.
The entrance to the cottage is off a large stone patio and a deck that wraps around the cottage. A door opens into the spotless, fully-equipped kitchen that is set up wonderfully for the cook, with views of the lake from the preparation and washing-up area. Because the kitchen opens into the dining area and living area, the cooks will never feel isolated from what is going on. A skylight above the kitchen allows even more light into the area. The dining room is spacious and has large bay windows overlooking the lake.
The cottage is full of character – from Lord Franklin the Frog, who will hold your drink, to the antique dining table and chairs, to the huge Muskoka stone wood-burning fireplace. Comfortable furniture in the living room provides a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings or listen to music on the CD player provided.
Off the living area is a hall that leads to two comfortable bedrooms and a four-piece bathroom with tub and shower. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, and the other has two singles. The master bedroom, which is tucked away off the end of the living area, holds a queen-sized bed and boasts a second sink. A pull-out queen-sized couch in the living room give extra sleeping choices.
Sliding doors lead from the living area out to the wrap-around deck where there is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the tranquility. Or there is a stone patio area at the south side of the cottage where there is a barbeque, table, umbrella and chairs, including some Muskoka chairs. Here, leafy trees above provide dabbled shade.
An 1858 log cabin is located on the cottage property near the patio and will be of interest to history buffs (The interior is not accessible.)
A series of sturdy, well-maintained, stone steps lead down past the rocks and wildflowers to the waterfront. The boat house at the shore is the base for sleeping quarters above, with queen-sized bed, table and chairs, and bar fridge. Fall asleep to the sound of the lapping water and the wind in the pines! This private spot has a sliding door that opens toward the lake and leads to a 24 foot by 20 foot deck. With the furniture provided it is like a living room.
The cottage is situated at the end of Friendly Bay and has all-day sun and wonderful sunset views from the boathouse deck. As the boat house is two levels, there is seating area below the deck where shade can be found. A choice of chairs is provided, including loungers. A 30 by 15 foot dock extends out from the base of the boat house to where the water is about four to five feet deep. If swimmers choose to swim from the shore, the entrance to the water deepens gradually and the bottom of the lake is firm sand. A fire-pit near the water completes the picture.
For the discerning cottager, this is the place to relax this summer!
