Hampton Haven F169
Mary Lake , Port Sydney, near Huntsville, Muskoka, Ontario.

This newly listed cottage rental offers the perfect Muskoka getaway.  Boaters and birdwatchers alike will enjoy this spacious, newly- renovated cottage on pretty Mary Lake, close to the towns of Port Sydney and Huntsville.  Seventy miles of boating on a chain of lakes invite exploration, and the sandy public beach at Port Sydney is only a few minutes away.

Tucked into the hillside, with stairs leading to the lake, the cottage offers fabulous views from the two decks and through the large windows facing the lake.  Living areas on two levels give entertainment options, and a setup that works well for any teens of the group.  The cottage décor is clean, bright, open and airy.

A path slopes down from the parking lot through a forest of oak and pine to the cottage.  Here, a door off the upper deck opens into the open-concept kitchen, dining, living area.  The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and an island along with lots of counter space for meal preparation.  The dining table seats eight, and patio doors open onto the south-facing deck for dining al fresco or sunning in the chairs provided.  Comfortable seating in the living area has lake views through the windows that open to the cooling breezes.  There is a television here, with DVD player.

Two bedrooms run off the living area.  One is spacious and has a twin bed.  The second bedroom has windows toward the lake and boasts a queen bed.  There is a four-piece bathroom on this level.

Steps lead down from the living area to the lower level of the cottage.  Here, large windows again face the lake, and patio doors open to the east-facing deck that has a view of the lake.  The large lower living area has comfortable seating and there is a cupboard with board games and puzzles.  A third bedroom on this level has a double bed while another room is curtained off and holds two daybeds and a second television.  Also on this level are a three-piece bathroom with shower, and a room with washer and dryer.

As there are a lot of stairs to the lake and the rock face is steep at times, this cottage is not recommended for young children unless they are under close adult supervision.  Levels of stairs climb down the hillside through pretty woodland and past interesting rock formations.  Once at the lake, there is a deck with chairs, a small level area with a fire pit, and a twenty-foot dock that extends out from the rocky shoreline into the deeper water.

Mary Lake is good for swimming and for boating.  Take the canoe or paddleboat provided to explore the shoreline, or to paddle to the village of Port Sydney with its sandy beach and ice cream store.  Motor boats may be launched beside the Port Sydney beach or rented from nearby Mary Lake Marina.  A wonderful day of exploration may be had by taking a motor boat across Mary Lake, up the Muskoka River, through one set of locks to reach the Fairy Lake, Penninsula Lake and Lake Vernon.  The town of Huntsville may be reached by boat, and it has many good restaurants, interesting shopping and live theatre.

Bring some good books, some sunscreen, and some good food, and enjoy  Living Famously!
