KINGDOM'S EDGE
Location: Camel Lake, Bracebridge, Muskoka, Ontario.
A south-west exposure, large private lot with volleyball/badminton net, huge deck, and clean spring-fed lake with a hard sand bottom are the special features of this Camel Lake cottage.
Kingdom's Edge is a recently renovated three-bedroom cottage. It is located near the end of a quiet road on a small, pretty lake a short drive from Bracebridge and Huntsville. The nicely treed lot has a combination of large, open, level areas and sloping areas. There is plenty of space for children to explore.
The cottage entrance leads into a room that can be used as a dining or sitting area. Here, a large picture window faces south-east over the deck and has a great view of Camel Lake.
A doorway leads from this room into the kitchen that opens into the living area. The kitchen is well laid out and includes a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker and baking supplies. The dining table has seating for eight.
A large window extends across the wall of the living area to give a wonderful southern view of the lake. Two couches provide comfortable seating, and a selection of board games and a television with DVD will be useful if there is inclement weather. The propane stove provides warmth and ambience.
On the main level there is one bedroom with a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan, and a window that looks out at the lake. There is a three-piece bathroom with shower.
A steep, narrow staircase with eight steps leads to the second level. Here there are two large bedrooms and a two-piece bathroom. One bedroom has a set of bunk beds with a double bed on the lower part. The second bedroom has a queen bed.
Additional sleeping space
is provided in a queen-sized bed in the bunkie that is close to the
cottage.
A large, fourteen-by-thirty-eight foot deck extends across the southeast
side of the cottage and can be accessed from the living/dining
area. This will quickly become a favorite place to relax with a
good book in the swinging chair with canopy, catch some rays, or
barbeque and dine al fresco at the large outdoor table.
Fifteen wooden steps lead off the deck toward the waterfront. There is a short level wooden area across the front of the cottage, then ten steps access the fifteen foot dock with its all-day sunshine. The 250-foot shoreline is lined with stones to prevent erosion, and has shallow water with a wonderful firm sand bottom that is great for children. The water deepens gradually to be about five or six feet deep at the end of the dock.
A paddleboat and canoe are provided, along with life jackets and a safety kit. Take the boat out to explore the quiet lake or to fish for bass.
The fire pit near the water’s edge will be a great spot to bring the family together to enjoy the evening and do some stargazing while toasting marshmallows.
Nearby Bracebridge has Santa’s Village and boat tours of Lake Muskoka, while Huntsville has the Muskoka Pioneer Village with its steam train. Both towns have great dining and unique shops. Numerous golf courses in the area include Mark O’Meara, Deerhurst, Grandview, Taboo, Diamond in the Ruff. Kingdom's Edge is within an hour’s drive of Algonquin Provincial Park.
