When it comes to privacy, Boathouse Point delivers. Surrounded on three sides by water, this delightfully cozy cottage on the much sought after Lake Muskoka is perfect for families on the look-out for somewhere special to spend their vacation time. Thanks to its unique setting not an hour goes by when some part of the 500+ ft shoreline of this nearly one-acre property isn’t in the sun: from the sunrises seen from the huge deck above the Boathouse to the afternoon sun beaming down on the other side of this beautiful point of land, sun-seekers won’t be disappointed.
Located just 20 minutes northwest of Gravenhurst on Walkers Point and easily accessed off Hwy 169, it is so peaceful that, apart from the occasional passing watercraft and the sound of family and friends having fun, the only other sound you’ll hear is the breeze buffeting the property’s tall old pine trees. An added bonus: the breeze does a terrific job of keeping away bugs, allowing you to enjoy the ample outside seating areas well into the evening.
Inside, the main cottage offers terrific views out every window. For example, the cook who stands in the well-stocked kitchen and preparing meals can look straight out over the water around the large Boathouse. From the outside patio, a table for six has a view of the nearby islands. Along with its painted pine cabinets, the bright kitchen area also has pine clad walls and granite tiled backsplash, as well as a real pine floor. In addition to the cottage’s front porch with its traditional wood screen door, guests can easily access the outdoors via the large 16ft x 16ft main deck with an outdoor patio set and its propane BBQ for some grilling.
The pine clad living room boasts a magnificent view, too, this time southwesterly and over the property’s main dock. There’s plenty of seating around the huge stone fireplace with its traditional style woodstove, making it the perfect place to sit and share tales as everyone recounts the day’s adventures. From the living room a hallway leads to the cottage’s three good-sized, pine ensconced bedrooms. In addition to the master with its queen bed, each of the other two bedrooms boast two twins, bringing the capacity in the main cottage to six. A large three-piece bathroom with shower and tub is also located off the hallway, along with the laundry room. The back porch off this same hallway offers a clothesline, the perfect place to hang out those damp swimsuits.
The place everyone’s going to want to hang out, though, is the large Boathouse included in the rental. Ground-level access to the Boathouse ensures everyone can access the main living area of this lovely bright space. Highlights include a large sunroom with a comfy armchair and couch (a two-piece washroom is also located off this space), a large living room area with plenty of seating facing the television that is connected to a DVD player (no TV channels available), and the property’s fourth bedroom, which offers a further two twin beds. But wait, it gets even better! Outside this upper level Boathouse living area is a huge 20 x 20ft deck, perfect for sunbathing, as it’s exposed to the sun for much of the day. There are also plenty of places to sit and enjoy an uninterrupted view over the water, including chaise loungers.
For outdoor fun, guests are welcome to bring their own motorboat (and can use the Boathouse for storage), or can take advantage of two kayaks and a canoe. Swimmers are spoiled for choice, too, with the opportunity to swim in the deep water surrounding the Boathouse (there’s a ladder for easy access), or the 6ft deep waters off the large deck on the other side of the property.
No stay at Boathouse Point is complete without spending at least a little time enjoying the tranquility to be found at the point of land in front of the cottage. Marked by a flagpole with its always fluttering Canadian flag, it’s the perfect place to stop and reflect just how beautiful Muskoka – and Lake Muskoka in particular – truly is.
