Located on popular Head Lake, one of the larger bodies of water in the Kawarthas and just a short drive from the town of Norland, Head Lake Cottage is an ideal spot for families of six to eight people looking for the perfect fun get-away. Completely renovated and boasting wonderful cottage-country inspired décor, this four-bedroom home-away-from-home comprises 1100 square feet of living space on a long half acre lot boasting some of the best water views in the region.
Capable of sleeping up to eight guests, Head Lake Cottage is tastefully decorated throughout. The cottage is easily accessible for those with mobility challenges thanks to its level front lawn and doorway. The large, slate-tiled mudroom has plenty of storage of handy things like life-jackets, paddles, and a deepfreeze. Leading off from the mud room is a good sized two-piece bathroom with a washing machine (a clothesline is provided).
Boasting new cabinets, a new granite countertop and tiled backsplash, the deluxe kitchen has everything needed for whipping up delicious cottage meals and entertaining. Well-appointed and also boasting slate floor tiles, features include quality appliances along with such necessities as a coffeemaker, toaster, and microwave, as well as a few extra including a kettle and teapot, a Keurig coffee brewer and an icemaker, along with a griddle (perfect for pancakes!), crock pot, and water cooler. The kitchen’s dining table seats six guests, with plenty of place setting. Cookware and bakeware are also provided.
Leading off form the kitchen is the comfortable living room with a wood laminate floor. Boasting seating for up to eight guests, this superbly decorated and bright room with its large south-facing window offers excellent views over Head Lake. Highlights include a flat screen television and DVD player, a CD player, and a good selection of DVDs, games and books. A fully-functioning woodstove is also available for use during cooler weather.
With all four bedrooms (one queen, two doubles, and a set of single bunks, sleeping eight quests) located on the ground floor, guests of all ages will enjoy their time here. The first bedroom with its double bed is located just off the kitchen and offers superb views over the lake. Also off the living room, the master bedroom has a queen bed along with an electric wood stove (the perfect way to stay cozy during those lovely autumn getaways). Bedrooms three and four also lead off from the living room and feature a double bed and a set of bunks, respectively. A large three-piece bathroom is also located off the living room.
There’s also no end of great places for quests to congregate outside, too, as Head Lake Cottage boasts three wonderful deck areas to choose from. The first and largest of these decks wraps around one side of the kitchen and extends across the entire front of the cottage. It’s here you’ll find the deluxe BBQ complete with an outdoor kitchen prep area consisting of a granite counter top, double sink, and plenty of storage. The front portion of the deck includes a pleasant seating area for up to five guests with incredible views of the lake and waterfront. From here, a set of large stone stairs leads directly to the waterfront, while a second set (this time wood) leads to a large and private deck with cushioned armchair-style seating for eight guests, a patio table (with umbrella) capable of seating six, and an outdoor fire chimney for a little added ambience. The third (and smallest) deck area is located just above the beach and also boasts an outdoor fire chimney. Also, be sure to try out the large two-person hammock, the perfect place to relax!
Head Lake Cottage’s 110 ft of waterfront consists of a beach area that’s perfect for youngsters. Made up of tiny round stones (or pea stones), it’s easy to walk on in bare feet, and gives way at the water’s edge to a shallow, sandy-bottomed lakebed. A 25 ft long dock dissects the beach area and offers sun exposure all day long. Guests can also make full use of the two canoes provided, along with a five-person paddleboat complete with a canopy. The waterfront can also be accessed by a gravel pathway leading from the side of the cottage.
Other outdoor activities include a fire pit (including seating for up to eight) located at the front of the cottage. A nice added touch is the solar lighting located at various points around the property ensuring easy navigation come nightfall.
